Abundance:
A sort of sea coral is escaping a piece of luggage. Why?
This artwork represents nature bursting forth with life and renewing itself. Its silent strength allows it to grow unconstrained and to renew itself ... unless we destroy it.
“Nature’s super abundance is not a squandering of energies, but an ordered profusion, subject to cycles, governed by rhythms.” -Jacques Dupin, from Joan Miro, Life and Work, Abrams
MATERIALS:
The materials come from a different kind of abundance; an abundance of discarded objects. I look beyond the initial purpose of an object and focus on its physical characteristics: shape, color, beauty, texture, and size. After the object is released from it original purpose it becomes raw material for creating something new. I believe that by rescuing commonplace materials, and putting them together in a new context, something ordinary can become wondrous.
This sculpture/assemblage is made of CPAP tubing, a vintage suitcase, recycled wire basket, car washing mitts, zip ties, acrylic paint, and decorative aquarium elements.
